Recommended Sounds. Here I have listed a few of my albums of choice which for me mean everything, we all have our favourite songs which reflect on experiences and moments in our daily life's whether good or bad happy or sad. I could probably list 300 which mean so much but these 10 for me , mean just that little bit more. Joni Mitchell's "Hejira", this album for me is awesome and stands the test of time on many counts. All tracks on this landmark album are excellent and her choice of musicians including Jaco Pastorius is spot on. Hejira has it all and is well worth investigating if you haven't had chance to take in this wonderful music.
2. The Beatles - Abbey Road Many people put "Peppers" up there with the best albums, yes its great, yes it changed the world but in my opinion this album is better!. For one thing George Harrison has a bigger input into the songs and contributes the beautiful "Something" which has been covered by everyone including Sinatra and "Here comes the sun" another wonderful tune. The highlight of this album for me is the last section which was apparently spliced together in the studio as the then disgruntled foursome were getting that sick of one another. All in all I feel The Beatles best album.
3. Stevie Wonder - Innervisions This album stands the test of time and is quite rightly a classic soul release Wonder at this time was in an incredibly productive period and fired off a salvo of four brilliant albums in a row including "Talking Book" and "Songs in the key of life" which is also in my top 10. "Living for the city" and "Higher Ground" are wonderful tracks - need I say more?.
4. Lynyrd Skynyrd - One More From The Road I first bought this album when I was 13 years old on LP record and it still after all this time is one of my favourites. It has so many good songs on it. The version of "freebird" just has to be heard - A classic album from the kings of Southern rock.
5. Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti This is without doubt Zep's best moment out of many great moments, the songs on this album are diverse and superb!. Just listen to "Kashmir" and "In my time of dying" you will get the idea very quickly im sure.
6. Radiohead - Ok Computer I first encountered this landmark album whilst working near Abingdon where Radiohead are apparently from. It hit me straight away as being special. This album has been voted as the best ever in many magazines and polls and if you've heard it you will no doubt know why - essential.
7. Pat Metheny - Secret Story As you all realise by now I'm big in Pat Metheny but this album stands out a mile for me as being his very best and by a long way to, it has so many good moments that I cannot easily explain it is beautiful and a delight. I think about one particular emotion when you hear this music and it brings out compassion and love in the beautiful arrangements - a truly exceptional work by and exceptional person.
8. Little Feat - Feats Don't fail me now Delicious album by this wonderful American band, much over looked and checking them out is strongly advised. Especially this album which has the legendary Lowell George featured upon it.
9. Dream Theater - Scenes From A Memory. To my eternal shame I once saw this great group perform the full album straight off but was unfortunately to worse for wear due to drinking lagers pre show to fully appreciate its brilliance. Scenes is a concept album which has some incredible heavy rock playing within it. All the musicians are innovators on their chosen instrument and its plain to see when you listen to this wonderful album.
10. Stevie Wonder -Songs in the key of Life Another album from the great Stevie Wonder truly monumental achievement - all songs are great.
So there you are my top 10, all of these ten albums would I feel add to anyone's listening and musical perspectives here's a few which could have been there to. Beach Boys - Pet Sounds The Band - The Band Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland The Stones - Exile On Main Street Miles Davis - Kind of Blue | |||||||||||||||
